Kent School Faculty Housing

Montagno Construction built 7 new faculty housing homes, renovated 5 existing faculty houses, and constructed 6 detached garages as Construction Manager for this faculty village on campus. Each house in the village features a unique design with an overall colonial theme. The total square footage was approximately 30,000 square feet with each house averaging 2,400 square feet.

We also completed infrastructure work, which included a perimeter road, and walking path, new utilities, storm drainage, and new sanitary force main with pump station.

“Over 12 years and a variety of projects, I found their workmanship and professionalism on all these various projects outstanding . . . , while school was both in and out of session.”

Hopkins School Calarco Library

Over the course of one year, Montagno Construction built a 5,000 square foot addition above an existing learning center to create a new library for this private school. We performed gut demolition and renovation of the existing learning center to incorporate it into the new library. An existing plaza over the old learning center was refurbished with dimensional bluestone pavers, granite treads, and railing systems after new waterproofing membrane was laid over structural concrete beneath.

The school was in session during this project and the adjoining and adjacent buildings were fully operational for the duration. We prepared comprehensive phasing plans, detailed safety and emergency egress plans, and oversaw safe, convenient pedestrian and vehicular traffic control.

For growing charter school, Montagno Construction renovated various components of a decommissioned church campus into a gymnasium, cafeteria, offices, and classrooms and performed code compliance work.

Much of this project was performed during a summer shutdown, but it was completed while school was in session. Montagno served as construction manager, provided multiple budget revisions as funding commitments fluctuated, and supervised over $5,000,000 of work in a 12-week period.

The photo above depicts the gymnasium and locker rooms. The music classroom is at the opposite end of the former sanctuary.

Kent School Rowing Center

The new boathouse and rowing center, built on the banks of the Housatonic River by Montagno Construction as CMR, provides critical conditioning space and boat storage for the world-renowned Kent School Rowing Team. Stationary rowing machines sit beneath an antique crew boat, while state-of-the-art rowing tanks in the next room provide controlled, in-water training to the team.

Montagno Construction worked with a HERS rater to verify the air-tightness goals of the project. The exterior is HardiePlank siding, which was shaped to resemble the movement of water. The foundation was constructed out of field stone.

The facility is also home to the school’s trophy room and student and alumni lounges.
