French’s Mill

Waterbury, CT

Architect:

Arthur P. D’Oliveira

French’s Mill

Kurt Montagno converted this abandoned brass and copper mill into a modern medical office building on a steep site adjacent to Waterbury Hospital. The scope involved selective demolition, raising the elevation of the site three feet, repointing and repairing all brick, replacing all windows, HVAC, and interiors, and adding a new ramp from Grandview Avenue.

Montagno built the new floor three feet above the existing manufacturing floor to match the new grade, and fit out medical office space for OptiCare. The remaining 60,000 sf, 2-story building was finished to warm, vanilla box for future use – one of which is Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center.
