The redevelopment of State & Chapel will transform an historic city block, only steps from New Haven State Street Transit Station, from an underutilized surface parking lot and partially vacant buildings, into a mixed-use community that restores the city fabric of a prominent streetcorner. The project consists of an adaptive reuse of the historic commercial buildings located along Chapel Street and a new construction building on the parking lot located at 300 State Street. The project will create 76 mixed-income apartment units in total, including 60 affordable housing units. Twenty percent of the units will be permanent supportive housing set aide for households experiencing homelessness. Existing ground-floor commercial at Chapel Street will remain in operation throughout the construction period. The new structure at 300 State Street will connect to the rear façade of 742 Chapel to create one integrated mixed-use property, and the property will also involve the creation of pedestrian connections to the recently revitalized mixed-use district at Ninth Square.
