Waterbury residents gathered today to celebrate a major milestone in community development, the grand opening of Linden Street Townhomes. This transformative project introduces 44 brand-new apartments, providing high-quality housing for more than a hundred local citizens.

“What a glorious day for our community as we cut the ribbon on these new homes, which will bring stability and opportunity to so many families,” said Jim Smith of the Harold Webster Smith Foundation. “We are thrilled to partner with Studio QA& M Architecture, the City of Waterbury, and NeighborWorks New Horizons on this exciting venture.”

Located in the heart of the Historic Hillside Neighborhood, recognized on both the National and State Registers of Historic Places, Linden Street Townhomes replace blighted structures that once occupied the site, including abandoned office buildings, a vacant multifamily property, and empty lots. Montagno Construction led the charge in transforming this space into a thriving residential community, featuring a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units.

Designed to support individuals and families across a broad economic spectrum, these homes serve residents earning between 25% and 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI). As part of Waterbury’s commitment to housing accessibility, Linden Street Townhomes will remain deed restricted as affordable housing for the next 40 years.

Funded in part by the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), with a permanent mortgage provided by the State of Connecticut Department of Housing, this development stands as a testament to the power of public-private collaboration in addressing housing needs.

The completion of Linden Street Townhomes represents more than just new construction—it signifies revitalization, investment, and a brighter future for Waterbury. As families begin to move in, this vibrant neighborhood will continue to grow, fostering community pride and stability for years to come.
